The ASSH Sub-Committee for Awards and Honours were pleased to make the following awards at the 2009 Sporting Traditions Conference in Wellington, New Zealand:

ASSH Fellow: Bill Murray for his sustained contribution to the history of sport.

ASSH Service Award: Braham Dabscheck for his sustained contribution to ASSH.

ASSH Book Award: This year, two awards were made:

  • Andrew Lemon (2008) The History of Australian Thoroughbred Racing: In Our Time, 1939 – 2007. South Yarra, Vic: Hardie Grant Books
  • Rob Hess, Matthew Nicholson, Bob Stewart & Gregory De Moore (2008) A National Game: The History of Australian Rules Football. Melbourne: Penguin.
